• Some people don’t understand how you can have pain and numbness in your feet at the same time. There’s different nerves for pain and different nerves in your feet for feeling (light touch), which does make it possible to experience both pain and numbness at the same time. If you ever find yourself with a serious foot infection do your best to ask for a Podiatrist, someone who specializes in the foot and ankle and specifically has treated many Diabetic foot infections.

  • There are two main things we treat in patients with plantar fasciitis. First we want the inflammation to decrease, then we want to take the stress off that ligament. We do that with proper shoes and an over the counter or custom insoles. We also use night splints, physical therapy and sometimes injections. For the most part over half the people are better in 2-4 weeks or sooner.

  • Mobility. Getting around after surgery can be tough, especially for the procedures that require non-weight bearing. Often time crutches can be very wearing when it comes to the amount of energy they require to use, not to mention wearing on the skin too. A lot of people will complain of armpit pain and sometimes blisters of the hands. One way to reduce the friction is to cut up a pool noodle and place it over the handles and arm rests. One way to avoid crutches all together, however is to try a scooter or the new innovative IWALK. Both require a sense of balance, but may allow for easier mobility.

  • Some people call them warts, some call them plantar warts, I like to call them aggravating, but the medical term Dr. Gale uses is verruca. Verruca on your feet can be irritating to say the least. At The Dakota Foot & Ankle Clinic we like to treat them as a war with many battles. Even though you can cut a wart off, burn it, freeze it, there’s still a chance that it can come back. With Dr. Gale, a Foot & Ankle Specialist, you’re in very capable hands. For a more in depth look at the treatment of warts, check out more information HERE.

  • Chances are if you’re going to the nail salon, you’re looking for cute, fresh polished nails. Unfortunately, your nails may not be cute for long if you opt to go to a salon that doesn’t sterilize their tools. Nail fungus can be transferred between clients and cause thick, yellow nails with debris beneath the nail beds. The best way to avoid this is to be sure that the tools are sterilized, or even better, go to a salon that requires a onetime purchase of your own tools.

  • Often times there will be a period of sleeping in a splint or a cast boot which makes it difficult to find a comfortable position as you toss and turn and get irreversibly stuck in your sheets and blankets. One trick that has been found to help is placing a box under the sheets & blankets that you can place your foot inside allowing for you to move a little bit more freely.
